Shunt calibration is typically a bipolar operation, with the resistor being shunted over upper and lower adjacent arms of the bridge, producing a positive and negative shunt voltage. Taking the average of the absolute values of the two shunt voltages provides a calibration voltage that is insensitive to small offsets. There are several guidelines to follow when applying a shunt calibration technique. First, the shunt calibration voltage should be approximately 75% of the expected maximum output voltage when initially calibrating a device and when setting up for an actual test.
